Kutty Surumi was born on September 23, 1982 from Kerala, India to renowned Malayalam actress Mammootty and his spouse Sulfath Kutty. Kutty Surumi completed her early education at Al Wadi Al Kabir Indian School in Muscat, Oman before moving to Dubai for higher studies where she earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from Dubai College.
Kutty Surumi did not intend to become an actress despite coming from an extended family with a strong cinema background. Instead, she pursued an occupation in commerce and business; however her father's fame in the industry eventually spurred her interest in acting. In 2014 she made her Malayalam film debut with "Bangalore Days".
